In 1964 Bob Dylan's album, "The Times They Are A-Changin'" included this song, "With God On Our Side." This song remains the most cogent, expressive statement of the confusion and ignorance behind the notion that in war, God picks sides.
With God On Our Side By Bob Dylan
Oh my name it is nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
Has God on its side.
Kyoto Can't Save Us "Emissions have gone too far and global warming is unavoidable. What is needed is recognition and a willingness to confront the very real challenges ahead," says Mark Hertsgaard, a correspondent for The Nation and the national satellite channel Link TV, as well as the author, most recently, of The Eagle's Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World and Earth Odyssey: Around the World In Search of Our Environmental Future.
Thanks to Charity Focus's Quote-A-Day, I could read this most moving account of the Cellist of Sarajevo and Yo Yo Ma. Lots of emotion here, so get ready, but I think you'll agree that it's deeply touching and it expresses the power of music to transform the darkness that also lives in the human heart.
A Victory For Dialogue Judge Hamoud al-Hitar convinces captured Islamic extremist to debate with him about the true teachings of Islam. The price they pay if they lose is they must renounce violence. Two years later, the former Al Quaeda terrorists are out of jail, they lead authorities to hidden weapons caches and their country of Yemen remains relatively peaceful
Anybody who has tried to dialogue with extremists in their own religion will recognize that Judge Hitar's success is little short of miraculous. How does this miracle happen? Read the article from the Christian Science Monitor or read it below after the jump.
Amitofo! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all who are involved to get the lectures on-line so that those of us who can't attend in person or regularly online can have a chance to download the archive files and listen to the great talks and the songs.
I had just downloaded and listened to some songs from dharmaradio.org. They are pretty cool! Technology nowadays is so advanced that people from all over the world can hear about the Buddha's wonderful teachings from BBM. I have also just listened to the talks given by Fashr from the VegSource conference in 2004 and 2003...how wonderful!
This year would be the 10th anniversary of Venerable Master Hua's Nirvana. In reminisce of Master Hua, I am wondering if there are songs Venerable Master Hua has written or songs about Gwan Yin we can hear through Fashr's lecture series in the future. I enjoy hearing about his stories a great deal and thought I put in this request :)
