Prof. Yeh Jiaying, one of the world's eminent scholars of Chinese literature, invited our delegation to Tianjin, China's Nankai University to give a talk about Buddhism in the West. Prof. Yeh's connection to the DRBA began in Vancouver, where she taught at the University of British Columbia. One of her students during her youth in Hong Kong had met Master Hsuan Hua, and after graduating UBC, decided to leave home to become a Buddhist nun. The student became Dharma Master Heng Gwei, and she introduced Prof. Yeh, her respected teacher of Chinese poetry to Master Hua. Master Hua invited Prof. Yeh to lecture at Gold Buddha Monastery in Vancouver, and at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas and we have stayed in touch over the years. Prof. Yeh, who has taught at universities around the globe, returned several years ago to Tianjin, where she still teaches at Nankai.
Nankai has produced such distinguished alumni as Premiers Zhou Enlai and Wen Jiabao.
